Three times lucky!

Finding somewhere to eat in a new city is never easy. I am always determined to stay away from the places that seem like tourist traps, but sometimes hard to find the places where locals would go for a good meal. I can recall many a moment of walking around and around in a city in search of the perfect place!

Rob and I have been to St Tropez numerous times and have on many occasions had a craving for a good pizza. A few places in Lausanne, including Bruschetta and Chez Mario have set the bar quite high, which means that the pressure is on for any other pizza that touches our lips!

We went to St Tropez twice last year and during both trips we thought we would live on the wild side, and have pizza in France! Now, the French do some things very well, including baguettes, quiche, champagne, longchamp bags, etc. Unfortunately our two pizza experiences led us to believe that one thing they did not do well was pizza.

During our first trip we actually left the restaurant after just a couple of bites. We told the lone waiter, who seemed just happy to have people to talk to, that we had eaten a big lunch and hadn't realised how full we were. During our next trip, Rob braved the pizza...I opted for a salad, after seeing the pizzas in the flesh.

After these two fateful trips, we vowed that we would never have pizza in France again.

Fast forward a year. We have a reservation at this amazing Moroccan restaurant...the only problem is that it falls right in the middle of the derby between Man City and Man U...you get the idea...the reservation was cancelled! So, it is now 830pm, and the game starts at 9pm. We had seen a little pizza place, called L'Aroma, not far from the hotel on many occasions, and have always said that perhaps this place would be the gem in the rough!

The restaurant is small (it has a total of three tables) and is full of character. The menu, painted on the outside wall of the restaurant looked good. Do we brave it? We did...and I am glad that we did! I had my usual - margarita and rucola. I can't believe I am going to say this, but it was better than Bruschetta and Chez Mario (controversial, I know!). The crust was perfectly thin, but the edge had a bit of "meat" to it, which is just how I like it. The sauce was pure perfection. There was just the right amount of mozzarella and a grocery store full of rucola (a girl has got to have her greens!). The restaurant also provided little packages of spicy pizza oil for their take out clientele...and it was actually spicy, which is not always the case!

Rob and I are back in this neck of the woods at the end of June, and I am already looking forward to pizza night!
