fickle football fans and other F words.

There are lots of things that amaze me when going to watch a game in the English Premier League, including the size of the hot dogs, the inability for fans from opposing teams to sit together and the ability of fans, young and old to create a run on sentence of swear words (the majority of which are jaw dropping) without any real thought.

The most remarkable thing for me however is the fickleness of the majority of the fans. I am sure that although only 50 words into this post, I have already offended millions of people, this is certainly not my intention.

Last weekend, Rob and I had the pleasure to go and see Everton vs Manchester United, one of the biggest games of the season for Everton. I had perhaps wrongly been looking forward to seeing how the Everton fans would treat Wayne Rooney, especially given the recent news about his infedility...once again. Rooney was however, a no-show. Perhaps this was for the good of the game, as it allowed the Everton fans to concentrate on the game, rather than focusing on booing their former star man.

And focus they did. Although I found that they focused their intention on telling certain of the boys in blue how terrible they were playing, calling them names. If my grandmother had been there, she would have suggested that the fans mouths be washed out with soap! How can one wear the team jersey, often with the very player's name who they are heckling emblazed across the back of their shirt? How can one go from jumping up and down celebrating that players goal, which allowed them to take the 1 - 0 against a major rival, to then screaming at them, making it seem that they would be pleased if the morning's paper announced that they had been sold to another team. I am a big believer in loyalty, and I am always shocked by the apparent lack of their of when watching football. Some have tried to explain to me that this is passion. I beg to differ.

Despite all of this, I always enjoy a good game and I look forward to my next one! Go blues go!
