Sunglasses in tow, we had prepared our list of must sees and must dos for the day. We went to Marais first, in search of COS (another one of my favourite stores). We then went in search of a new pair of kicks at Tiger for Rob...and did a mini pit stop for Starbucks on the way. No such luck at Tiger unfortunately. We then searched for Marc by Marc Jacobs for a little window shopping and gawking. We had lunch at this delicious little cafe around the corner. A bit more walking...and a then a stop at Pinko (where have you been all my life?). Being the dedicated fan that he is, Rob went back to the hotel to watch Everton. Unfortunately my crossed fingers did not create the result we had hoped for. I picked up a picnic for supper and joined Rob back at the hotel. We ate and headed for the Stade de France. The U2 concert was fantastic - they are true performers! We belted out the tunes with the best of them. As U2 say, "It's a Beautiful Day"This was my first trip to the Stade...and I must say that I was a bit underwhelmed by the cleanliness of the facility...while I am sure that it is hard to maintain with a capacity 80K, it certainly left something to be desired.
Sunday morning, we had breakfast at the hotel - we stayed at the Novotel Gare de Lyon...nothing special, but it had a bed - it did the job. I tend to gravitate towards the smaller, privately owned B&Bs and hotels. The hotel probably would have gotten a better review from me if the cereal bowls had been a tad bigger...the bowls they had were a joke! We watched the roller hockey guys for a bit and then headed out for a walk. We came across a great looking hotel (Hotel Caron) and Italian market (Gusto) in Marais - if we save our pennies, we might just be able to stay there next time! While I have never really imagined us living in Paris, I really wouldn't mind getting lost in Marais for a month or two. It is one of those fantastic neighbourhoods which is rich in art galleries, lots of large and small shops, Parisian cafes, etc.
I love imagining what many of apartments in Paris look like...I imagine 12ft ceilings...crown mouldings...hardwood floors...all of which would be exquisitely decorated of course...I would love to do an apartment tour in Paris one day. I would also love to do a bike tour. That is on our list of things to do next time.
We picked up another picnic and boarded the train a few minutes before 2pm. Another fabulous weekend. Paris, I will be back soon.
